Elements That May Be Skated or Introduced on Placement Day

It is not necessary for skaters to know or be able to perform all of the following elements; this is a guideline only.  Coaches will begin with basic elements and introduce new synchro skating concepts as well.  If your skater has not learned a certain element that is being performed, they may choose to try it or not, of their own will. 

Introductory Team

  •      Basic skating – forward and backward
  •      Snowplow stop
  •      Pumps on a circle – forward and backward
  •      Beginning synchro moves (wheel, line, circle)

Beginner Team:

  •      Forward stroking
  •      Stops – Snowplow or T
  •      Edges
  •      Lunges
  •      3-turns – 2ft or 1ft
  •      Basic safety – pick up hands, slow in circles, stop or reconnect if breaks
  •      Pumps on circle (unconnected and connected forward and backward)
  •      5 elements and arm hold – shoulders
  •      4 spoke wheel
  •      Block steps forward – one line at a time
  •      Block shape moving forward only
  •     Forward pass through on one foot
  •      Circle – 10 step mohawk

Preliminary and Juvenile Team:

  •      Individual forward stroking and Pre-Juvenile stroking patterns (forward & backward)
  •      Lines of 4 – forward and back stroking pattern separately
  •      Individual power 3’s (3-turn, push, step X)
  •      Lines of 4 – power 3 pattern forward
  •      Alternating 3’s inside and outside
  •      Spiral
  •      Figure 8 forward crossovers
  •      Figure 8 backward crossovers
  •     5-step Mohawk on circle
  •      Spin – scratch and sit
  •      Hydroblade – front and back
  •      Forward pass with lunge
  •      Traveling wheel
  •      T-stops
  •      Back power 3’s on circle
  •      Line power 3’s
  •      Power pulls – forward and backward, right and left (half length each)
  •      Circle cycle forward
  •      Half jump/whole jump – loop
  •      Double wheel
  •      Curved spiral
  •      Travel circle

Open Juvenile:

  •       Stroking pattern forward and backward
  •       Individual power 3’s
  •       Lines of power 3 pattern
  •       Flying camel
  •       Pivot lines and blocks
  •       Double 3’s
  •       3-turn step sequence
  •       Travel element
  •       Hydroblade
  •       Twizzles – all forward and back
  •       Forward counters on circle cycles
  •       Edge pulls forward and backward
  •       Brackets – 3 back edge pulls, 2 brackets
  •       Flip
  •       Loop
  •       Open block
  •       Spiral with change of edge
  •       Bauer
  •       Spread Eagle
  •       Circle bracket footwork, change of direction with forward inside 3
